Let your Conscience be your Guide

Sabbath, July 18, 2009

In the times when Julia and I are too tired and worn out to do anything constructive, we have rented movies; the only problem is, that the closer we get to God, the more tender our consciences become, and we finally reached the point where we could no longer find anything we could watch, and not offend our conscience.   Consider this as your guide, for movies, television, books and any media...even video games:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are
lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there
be any praise, think on these things.   The things which you both learned and
received and hear and saw in me, these things do: and the God of peace shall
        be with you.
(Phil.4.8 and 9)

You will have a very hard time meeting this standard for the things you read, watch or listen to...so what it boils down to is that our lives are being molded into the image of Jesus Christ in all things, we, that is, who are willing and want to go all the way with God into His Kingdom and to have this 'peace' Paul speaks of, then you will study to discern what you should do.
The fact is also, that sometimes your conscience will not always tell you because you are not close enough to God...but if you study what you do, and search the Scriptures, you will enlarge your heart and will draw nearer to God, and nearer to His salvation which you all will be needing very badly and very soon.  With this knowledge, and if you are willing to obey the pricks of your conscience, you will be delivered from the evil ahead.
        Just thought you should know.
